PRDC Trust has been working in the Nilgiris for the past 3 years in the field of Education, women empowerment, Health, Youth development and advocacy and lobbying. Efforts of PRDC Trust have resulted in increased participation of girls in educational activities and in vast majority of our associated villages, as many girls as boys attend school. The PRDC Trust has deputed one teacher to each school to focus primarily on the overall development of the poor children. To enable the children to attain basic skill in reading, writing, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division PRDC Trust chalked out a program.

Our Trust promoted Village education committee in all 10 schools and involved them in school development activities. Capacity building trainings were organized and federated them into Panchayat level and Block level federations to take care of the educational activities at school level and at panchayat and block level.
  
Women Empowerment

The PRDC Trust is proud to state that it has formed 3000 SHGs in Nilgiris and is working with the bankers and UCO Bank to support the women empowerment programs. Meetings are conducted fortnightly to gauge the progress. The training programs well designed have enhanced the capacity of these women to realize their responsibilities, to contribute towards building a better society and to advocate for their rights and social justice.
The women's groups enable non-judicial settlement of disputes. The women entrepreneurship development programs are changing the skills of rural workmen to undertake non-farm sector activities.

Women’s Enterprises

Today, women’s enterprises have been established across the Nilgiris in the areas of: tea production, floriculture, grocery / clothing provision, mushroom/herb cultivation, Eucalyptus/geranium oil distillation, dairy production, sheep raring, knitting garments, vermicompost, construction, soap/phenoyil production, interior decorating, homemade chocolates, candle making, furniture supply, hire for events, masala/chilli making, beauty parlor and flour / Tiffin /snacks production.
